Bowlers Court

Bowlers Court is an attractive new build residential development comprising of 61 no. 1 & 2 bedroom shared equity and rented apartments located on a former carpark adjacent to Springfield Road within the heart of Chelmsford City Centre. The planning and design of the project needed particularly careful consideration in regards to the various boundary constraints and irregular shape of the site, in order to realise the site’s full potential. There are several Grade II listed buildings neighbouring the site which dictated that the proposals should complement the classical Georgian vernacular as well as the city’s growing vision for modern and contemporary architecture. A Buff brick façade integrates the development seamlessly with the surrounding Georgian architecture whilst both the zinc and rainscreen cladding compliment the building form in the context of the site. The overall scale of the building form’s design has been heavily influenced by the adjacent Tesco supermarket and multi-storey carpark to the west of the site, as well as the 3 storey Georgian buildings to the East. EA were appointed as lead consultant in respect of RIBA Plan of Work stages 4 & 5.
